Community

There are 9 counties  and 101 cities in the Bay Area. MS BACA is currently working in Berkeley, San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose cities. Our goal is to eventually be involved with all 9 counties.

MS BACA, a non profit organization, plans to reach out to the MS communities within these 9 counties. At the present, we are actively involved in working with Berkeley, San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose MS Communities. Bryan has organized walks at Lake Merritt on Saturday mornings and has provided walking sticks to those that need them

Bryan has organized walks at Lake Merritt on Saturday mornings and has provided walking sticks to those that need them to participate. He is also meeting on Sunday mornings at various locations for a bike ride. Bryan is also currently training for the 2024 NMSS Waves to Wine event in September. He has established a MS BACA ride team for you to Join!

MS BACA is taking action  to achieve their goal by providing walking sticks, bikes, tricycles and other athletic equipment to participants in MS events. Our first act was to provide walking sticks to some of the members  of the Oakland MS support group chapter and others within the community.

  Multiple Sclerosis, (MS), is a condition that affects the central nervous system and changes the way that the nerves work. Many aspects of MS remain a mystery. Here are some things we do know about this condition.

The cause is unknown.

MS is more likely to appear in women aged 20–40 years than in other age groups.

Many scientists believe that MS is an autoimmune disease, which develops when the immune system attacks its own healthy tissues.

In MS, the body attacks myelin, which is the fatty substance that acts as a protective cover to nerve fibers. This disrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body.

Who is Bryan Baca?

Bryan was born in 1976.

He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 19, after showing muscle aches while walking. After seeing a neurologist and having an MRI, it was conclusive that he had Multiple Sclerosis.

At that time, he was working for UPS. During that time he was promoted to Supervisor. Over the next sev

Bryan was born in 1976.

He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 19, after showing muscle aches while walking. After seeing a neurologist and having an MRI, it was conclusive that he had Multiple Sclerosis.

At that time, he was working for UPS. During that time he was promoted to Supervisor. Over the next several years Bryan didn’t share his disability with anyone at work. It has been 28 years since his diagnosis. He is now 47 and resides in Hayward, CA with his wife and two children.

Bryan was part of a MS Genetic study at UCSF, with DR. Cree, called the MS Epic Study from 2005 - 2019.
